Art Nouveau flourished worldwide at the turn of the 20th Century. Spanning many disciplines; including art, architecture and the decorative arts; it was characterised by the use of bold forms, colours and textures drawn from nature. In Spain, the movement incorporated the traditional Spanish mosaic technique, trencadis, and became known as modernism. Chief exponent of this new movement was the famed Catalan architect and designer Antonio Gaudí Cornet (1852-1926), universally known as Gaudi. Gaudi merged Neo-Gothic and Moorish revival styles with Art Nouveau to produce an astonishing and unique body of work. The most iconic buildings in the distinctive cityscape of Barcelona, such as the famous Sagrada Familia and the Parc Guell for example, are expressions of his unique vision.

Established in Barcelona in 1998, Barcino produces items based on this unique, and uniquely Spanish, tradition. Products feature vivid colour and painstaking high quality design, resulting in unique items which express Barcino’s contribution to the Gaudi influenced, trencadis tradition. Each piece is individually hand painted and undergoes a rigorous design and development process to ensure high quality, unique and collectable products. Currently, Barcino provides a wide selection of mosaic and metal products ranging from human and animal figurines, fridge magnets and wall hangings to photo frames, candle holders, key-rings and bookmarks. The list is extensive and new products are continually under development.
